Overview & Reviews
This year all heavy-duty Silverados receive a redesigned hood and grille. On extended and crew cab models, a power sunroof is a new option, and it includes a HomeLink universal transmitter and deluxe overhead console.
- Powerful engine lineup, multiple drivetrain configurations, substantial towing and hauling capacities.
- Spotty build quality, mediocre interior design and materials.

Best truck I ever owned - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By heart - May 21 - 3:20 amI pull a 28 ft race car trailer every weekend. This is the best truck I have ever owned. Plenty of power and torque. The truck is stable while pulling. No more getting blown around when a semi passes me. The interior is roomy enough for my two kids and no problem parking it when we go to the store. The power is impressive! Not as impressive as my dragster. However, the dragster goes from zero to 60 in one second.

Silverado, best all-purpose truck - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Jack - February 6 - 5:20 pmWe truely love our Silverado. It is our family vehicle, our camping truck, our bad weather truck, and long distance vacation transportation. It has everything we ever wanted, or will ever need, in a vehicle.

2005 2500HD First 3000 Miles - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Don Underwood - September 5 - 4:13 pmGood basic work truck. This is a 2005 2500HD 4X4, regular cab, 6.0 w/manual trans. The manual transmission helps the fuel economy if you keep your foot light on the gas pedal. The first 3000 miles (first month) has been very satisfactory. Highway fuel economy is been slightly over 17 when running 2300 rpms or less. City average about 13.5. Weekly average of mixed hwy/city about 15. Towing (boat) at highway speeds about 13/14.

Duramax - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Rodney - June 2 - 1:33 pmI have very much enjoyed my truck. It has been great in the snow and driving in the mountains of the western U.S. It had no trouble pulling a 27 foot trailer through the mountains of Wyoming. Good brakes and good handling. My wife fights with me over who gets to drive it.

05 GMC - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By kruzan - April 27 - 12:20 amGreat truck, 05 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax is the king of diesels. Wish it had bigger wheels/tires(17-18"), and the interior stinks if trying to sleep. Front seats do not recline all the way, very uncomforable to sleep in. I drive long distances through the night at times and know I cant sleep in this truck. Only mechanical drawback/weak link is the Allison transmission. It is weak and needs more beef, especially in the torque converter and C3/C4 clutchs.

I want my 2001 Back - 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By jdgreen402 - February 3 - 6:43 amTo say that I am very dissatisifed with my 2005 is an understatement. The Duramax is 1/3 more thirsty than my 2001. The Allison transmission has now started to intermittantly refuse to allow the engine to rev past 2000 RPM or it cuts itself out. The drivers side window is continuing to leak air. The air leak on the passenger side has us traveling with a blanket if the outside temps drop below 20 degrees. When I get the Allison to shift properly ... Im heading to my local Ford dealership!
